Here’s Exactly What Working With AJEC Looks Like

No surprises. No guesswork. Just a clear, proven process — from first call to final sign-off.

When you engage AJEC, you’re not just hiring a consultant — you’re adding an energy compliance team to your build. Here’s what that looks like in practice, step by step.

1
Discovery — Week 1

We Learn Your Project Inside Out

On your first call with Jack, we listen before we prescribe. We ask about your build type, timeline, target code path, and any previous compliance headaches. This isn’t a sales call — it’s the foundation of your compliance plan.

What you’ll share: floor plans, site address, target occupancy date, any previous energy reports. What you’ll get back: a clear sense of which compliance path makes the most sense — and why.
2
Onboarding — Days 3–5

You Get a Dedicated Team, Not a Ticket Number

After your call, we assign your project a dedicated advisor. You’ll receive a welcome email with your project details, key contacts, and what we need from you to get started. We don’t disappear after the first conversation.

You’ll receive: your project contact info, a document checklist, and your estimated report timeline. Typical turnaround: 5–10 business days from document receipt.
3
Modelling — Week 2–3

We Run the Numbers — Then We Optimize Them

Our advisors build your energy model and immediately look for value-engineering opportunities. If a cheaper wall assembly gets you the same result as an expensive one, we’ll tell you before you build — not after.

You’ll see: a draft compliance report, any upgrade or downgrade recommendations, and projected savings vs. the prescriptive path. Most builders save $2,000–$8,000 per model on upgrade costs alone.
4
Site Support — During Construction

We’re With You Through the Build, Not Just Before It

Our team is available to answer RFI-style questions from your super or trades during construction. If something changes mid-build — a product swap, a design revision — we update the model so your compliance doesn’t slip.

Typical mid-build touchpoints: insulation confirmation, window spec changes, HVAC system confirmation. All included — no surprise charges for revisions within original scope.
5
Testing — Pre-Occupancy

We Handle the Blower Door — You Focus on Closing

When the home is ready for air tightness testing, we schedule and conduct the blower door test. We prepare you and your trades beforehand so there are no surprises on test day. Pass on the first try — that’s the goal, and it’s usually the result.

First-time pass rate: the vast majority of AJEC-supported projects pass first time. For Pro Builder clients, one free blower door test is included per 5 model types.
6
Sign-Off — Final Reports

Clean Documentation, Ready for the Building Department

We deliver your final energy compliance report — formatted and ready for submission. No chasing, no missing pages, no last-minute scramble. Your file is complete the first time.

Deliverables: certified energy model, compliance report, blower door test certificate (where applicable), and any program-specific documentation (ENERGY STAR, Net Zero, CMHC, etc.).
7
Ongoing — Future Projects

We Stay Current So You Don’t Have To

Energy codes change. New programs launch. Incentive thresholds shift. As an AJEC client, you’ll hear about the changes that affect your builds before they catch you off guard. We filter the noise — you get only what’s relevant to your work.

You’ll receive: code change alerts, new program announcements, and periodic check-ins as projects progress. Staying ahead is part of the service.
